education, not so educative

“Fire! Fire”

A small accident that was created by little kids next door lit a fire to a house of two kids and one mother. It was not a big fire - big enough to burn the whole house -as the mother saw a backyard big enough for the family to escape. It was only a short sprint away from the fire to the backyard. So the mother ran for her life to the backyard, not noticing her two kids. When she stepped out of the backyard, then she wondered where her kids were. She looked inside the balcony and saw her two kids standing around the telephone in the livingroom. The mother screamed out to the kids,

“KIDS! WHAT ARE YOU DOING? ESCAPE ! COME HERE!!”.
The kids shook their heads and rejected their mother yelling out,
“NO MOM! WE HAVE TO CALL THE FIRE-FIGHTERS!! QUICK MOM! YOU’RE GOING TO DIE IF YOU STAY THERE!”.
The mother slapped herself, remembering one of the episodes from Barney called “How to be safe!”. Unfortunately the two kids died from lacking oxygen.

The level of maturity differ for every humankind. From the dogs to the orangutans, they need to be trained before they create their own minds. Everyone is different to each other basically because of the differences of their background/environments; however, few things are in common. Safety, habit and the concept of what is wrongright is the same for everyone. These were never taught in the olden days becase besides factories, safety was never an issue at home. Now days, children learn these saftey tips from both at home and TV shows. Maybe, rather than teaching them things that are unhelpful, we should’ve left it up to their common senses.
Children are little dummies; harshful words, but truly they are. Us, as adults, should think of the concequences and think at many point of views and consider what should be taught. and

Further on with the unfortunate death of those two kids, the government considered to do an experiment. They gathered a class of kids aged from 5 to 7 and they fooled the kids as if there was a fire coming across. Instead of running for the veranda, they all ran for the telephone to call for the fire-fighters.
This may sound hillarious but it is in fact a very serious problem. If there was a real fire coming across, they would’ve been all burnt.
When I actually watched a children’s TV program that instructed safety tips for emergencies, they first showed a list of emergency numbers. Follwed by a cartoon character holding up a telephone yelling their address. Us as adults obviously know that escaping is the first thing to do followed by the phonecalls. Although we should always remember that the children are dummies!

This complaint is not dedicated to the Western Society. Shamefuly, this was not a problem for any other countries but my country, Korea. Other countries, as I’ve experienced before, act out a fire drill once a year as a school. From the age of 5 to 18, all students attending a school are trained to relax and calmly walk to escape when there is an emergency. Unless our society is hoping for more deaths, we should be publicly corrected by a more appropriate education.
